In winter

Snow is a passion at Grand Angle. It’s also where the story began in 1983, in the Black Forest, the Vercors and Scandinavia. Count on the advice of our ski instructors and mountain guides for an epic winter adventure.

Behind these trips, our experts

Snowshoeing

Winter hiking without technical constraints. 10–20 km/day, 100–800 m elevation, 3–6 hours. If you’re a hiker, you’re ready to go!

Cross-country skiing

Gentle endurance activity set to vacation mode. 15–30 km/day, 100–350 m elevation, 4–6 hours. Classic or skating technique.

Nordic ski touring

Off-trail adventure through great wildernesses. 10–35 km/day, 150–600 m elevation, 3–7 hours. Requires basic skiing experience.

Dog sledding

Drive your own sled team through the Far North. Small groups, 4–6 hours/day. No special fitness or technique required, just a love of dogs!

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is just winter hiking. Ideal for those who don’t ski or anyone who wants to free themselves from technical constraints. Moving on snowshoes is similar to walking, a little more demanding in powdery snow, but also way more fun! We offer rental snowshoes and poles.

How to dress? Waterproof pants, waterproof hiking boots, merino or synthetic thermal underwear, warm layers (avoid cotton), Gore-Tex jacket. Each trip includes a detailed packing list.

Cross-country skiing

Your cross-country skis glide along tracks crossing snow-covered hills and valleys, passing forests and villages. At Grand Angle, it’s set to vacation mode! We offer rental skis, poles and boots.

  • Classic vs skating? Classic is easily accessible to all: the movement resembles a gliding gait. Skating is sportier and faster but technically harder for beginners.
  • Ski size? Allow 15–25 cm more than your height for classic, 10 cm more for skating.
  • Pole size? Classic: 20 cm shorter than your height. Skating: 10 cm shorter.
  • Bindings? Two standards: NNN and SNS. Your boots must match your bindings.

Nordic ski touring

The mountain bike version of cross-country skiing: rougher terrain, off-trail, wider skis with stiffer edges. Equipment remains lighter than alpine touring skis. Perfect for crossing Scandinavia or the high plateaus of the Vercors. Requires a minimum level of skiing experience.

  • Ski size? Depends on weight, height and ski width. Some brands offer wide skis at your height, others slimmer skis 20 cm longer.
  • Pole length? About 25 cm less than your height.
  • Plane travel? Most airlines accept skis in the hold. With connections, they may arrive a few days late.

Dog sledding

Journey to the land of the Far North. You drive your own sled and look after your dog team. Very small groups for greater cohesion. May include ice fishing and snowshoeing. No special fitness required, just a love of dogs!
