Traveller’s ethical charter
Each of us can help to be a responsible traveller, mindful of the world and its people, by following a few tips before, during and after our trip.

Before your trip: prepare thoughtfully
- Learn about local people, customs, heritage, religion and the environment. A few words in the local language can make a difference.
- Choose travel professionals who show a commitment to responsible tourism.
- Pack what you need and consider locally made souvenirs.
- Check travel risks and practical advice with the relevant organisations.
During your trip: respect people and places
- Adapt to local customs and try local food with an open mind.
- Ask permission before photographing someone.
- Sort your waste, conserve water and energy, and follow the rules in natural areas.
- Leave natural sites as you found them. If you wish to support a local cause, choose a reputable organisation.
After your trip: keep the adventure going
- Honour commitments you made during your trip, share photos as agreed, and report any concerning situations to the right people.
- Consider the emissions from your journey and lower-carbon transport where practical.
- Share what you learned about the places and people you visited with care and accuracy.
- Share feedback with our team to help improve future trips.
