Exploring Africa as a family, through children’s eyes

A family holiday in Africa comes into its own when each day follows a pace that children and adults can enjoy together. Walking in the desert, observing village life or learning to read a landscape then becomes a shared adventure. At Grand Angle, we help you choose an itinerary suited to your children’s ages and your family’s walking experience. The guidance below will help you compare trip types before discussing upcoming departures with our team.

How do you choose a trip to Africa with children?

Travelling at the right pace

The recommended age varies depending on the trip, the length of each stage and the conditions along the way. Before booking, pay particular attention to the difficulty level, daily activity time and transfers. A child who is already used to walking will have different needs from one discovering a multi-day journey for the first time. Our advisers can help you assess these details in light of your family’s experience.

Making room for everyone

Memories often grow out of simple moments: preparing for a day’s walk together, identifying a track in the sand or sharing a meal. For a first trip, our family holidays in Morocco combine walking, meeting local people and discovering the desert. You can also broaden your search to our full range of family holidays.

Choosing walking or cycling

Some families enjoy travelling on foot, while others prefer a mix of activities. Our family walking holidays focus on the journey and the landscapes. For a trip with cycling stages, explore our family cycling holidays too.

More ideas for travelling together

If you would like to stay closer to home, compare our family holidays in Europe. The essentials remain the same: choosing terrain, a duration and a difficulty level that make everyone keen to take part.

—  Of the 6 days in the dessert, 3 were spent enjoying the desert and the dunes. For the other 3 days, it was not pleasant to walk through rocky fields. On the last night, we slept in an unshaded field next to a noisy road.

Hello,
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry that some of the rockier sections and the last campsite didn’t meet your expectations. It’s true that the desert alternates between dunes and oases, but it also includes rockier stretches that can sometimes be less easy to drive on and monotonous. We trust our partners and guides—who are the most knowledgeable on the ground—to manage each leg of the journey and adapt the route based on conditions, the group’s needs, and skill level, in order to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety. We will pass your comments on to the local teams and hope that, despite everything, you will still have fond memories of your trip.

Best regards,
The Grand Angle Team
