Just off the French coast, the Channel Islands offer a distinctive setting for an exciting self-guided hiking trip. Between British culture and Norman heritage, this independent travel experience invites you to explore the coastal paths of Jersey and Guernsey, 2 islands with distinct characteristics, connected by ferry.

On Jersey, the largest of the islands, you will walk the famous Cliff Path, a spectacular trail that winds along the top of the cliffs on the north coast. From Bouley Bay to Grève de Lecq, your steps take you through maritime views, secret coves where seabirds nest, and small fishing harbors. The interior also reveals hidden treasures, such as prehistoric dolmens and granite manors.

You then reach Guernsey, whose southern coast, wilder in character, takes you along old fishermen’s trails. Above the cliffs, through moors and flowering woodlands, you discover isolated bays and remarkable viewpoints leading to the charming capital, St Peter Port.

Organized as a semi-itinerant trip with accommodation on each island, this stay offers you great flexibility. An excellent local bus network allows you to easily reach the starting point of each day’s hikes. This itinerary is also available as a guided group tour, discover our trip Channel Islands: Jersey, Guernsey, Sark and Herm as a guided group tour.

These itineraries are valid in both directions: from Jersey to Guernsey or from Guernsey to Jersey.

Program

From the Saint-Malo ferry terminal, proceed to the Condor Ferries counter; crossing to Jersey. On arrival (approximately 1 hour 15 minutes later), short taxi transfer to the hotel and check-in. Depending on your arrival time, you may set off for your first hike.

On Jersey, the north coast is bordered by a coastal path, “the Cliff Path,” which offers very beautiful and spectacular hikes.
Beautiful walk along the “Cliff Path,” passing through Bonne Nuit Bay, Sorel Point, and Devil’s Hole, close to the cliffs where crested cormorants and gulls nest, heading towards Plémont, in a loop or simply as a linear walk. (Travel by bus to Bouley Bay and return from Grève de Lecq).
5 to 5.5 hours of hiking, 16 km

Variations:

  • It is possible to make a loop from Devil’s Hole back to Bouley Bay without continuing to Grève de Lecq
  • It is also possible to continue after Greve de Lecq to Plemont

Via the Couperon dolmen, then Saint Catherine’s bay, you reach the bay, before visiting the village of Saint Martin and its granite church. The route brings you back towards the sea and Archirondel’s red tower. A little further you will discover the Faldouet dolmen (6000 years), before arriving at Mont Orgueil castle and the village of Gorey.

Alternative:

  • Possible departure from Saint Catherine to Gorey. Shorter walk - From Saint Martin, walk towards the Eric Young Foundation, dedicated to orchids, then continue to the Hougue Bie dolmen, then cross the territory of Grouville, to Samares Manor, and reach Saint Helier, where you will certainly enjoy a stroll

Sark
On the magnificent island of Sark, time seems to have stood still. Closed to vehicles and blessed with exceptional flora and fauna, it is easily accessible by ferry from Guernsey. It is best explored on foot or by bicycle (available for rent on site) with its beautiful coastal landscapes and charming, picturesque interior. Several good hotels and restaurants welcome those who wish to spend more than one day there.

Herm
Located 6km to the south-east of Guernsey, this tiny island of 3km by 800m will offer you complete disconnection for the day. You can walk around it via the coastal path, admire the wild landscapes, and enjoy the coves and sandy beaches.

—  You switch off the moment you arrive at the ferry. These English gardens, this lush vegetation typical of the Anglo-Norman islands, are a feast for the eyes

Gontrand 6/26/26

—  A very beautiful spot, peaceful, that lets you do sporting activities away from the crowds.

Amélie 6/26/26

—  A real change of scenery and only 10 hours away by car, exceptional weather that made the landscapes unique.

Justine 6/26/26

—  For Sark, taxis aren't necessary. We could have had the choice between Herm or Sark, or no island so you cover it on foot. Too bad we're not on a self-guided route (I prefer a different hotel every day). Third trip with Grand Angle and we don't plan to stop there. We keep discovering marvellous landscapes!
