The Breton section of the Vélomaritime is a path of constant discovery. It guides you past rugged pink granite cliffs, sheltered sandy beaches, and charming fishing villages that seem untouched by time. From the historic ramparts of Saint-Malo to the windswept lighthouses guarding the coast, every stage of the journey immerses you in the unique culture and maritime heritage of Brittany. The route offers a rewarding mix of gentle stretches and more invigorating climbs, always balanced by breathtaking views of the sea.
A self-guided cycling holiday with Grand Angle means you set the rhythm. We provide detailed route notes, GPS tracks, and comfortable, pre-booked accommodations, leaving you free to simply enjoy the ride. Your luggage is transferred for you each day, so you can travel light and focus on the experience. It’s the ideal way to explore independently without the logistical hassle, allowing for spontaneous stops to savor a crêpe or explore a hidden trail.
Our featured trip, The North Coast of Brittany by Bike, is a perfect introduction to this incredible route. Starting near the iconic abbey of Mont Saint-Michel, you’ll cycle westwards along the Emerald Coast, passing through the corsair city of Saint-Malo and the beautiful bay of Saint-Brieuc on your way to Morlaix. This journey covers some of the most scenic parts of the Vélomaritime, including the renowned Pink Granite Coast.
The ideal seasons for cycling in Brittany are spring and autumn. From May to June, the landscape is lush and the days are long, while September and October offer pleasant temperatures and quieter routes. Summer, particularly July and August, can be busier and warmer, though the coastal breeze often provides comfortable riding conditions.
Traveling light is key, especially since we transport your main luggage. Essential items include layered cycling clothing to adapt to Brittany’s changeable weather, a reliable waterproof jacket, and comfortable shoes for evenings. For a comprehensive checklist and expert tips, read our guide on how to pack for a bike trip.
If the coastal landscapes of Brittany appeal to you, you might also enjoy the sea breezes while cycling the Atlantic coast on the Vélodyssée. For those who love pedaling through historic landscapes, our tours cycling in the Loire Valley or through the vineyards of Burgundy by bike offer classic French experiences. Beyond France, the famous Passau to Vienna bike tour along the Danube provides a different but equally scenic adventure. Many of our destinations are also available as bike and boat tours, combining daily rides with the unique experience of life on the water. — The trip was amazing. The views, the Ocean, the excellent GPS links and the cities we visited. For us it was the first time doing a bike trip by the ocean and we loved it. (This is our 15th consecutive year traveling with bikes). We mostly dealt with Mathias, he was all along very kind, responsive and professional.

— The Vélomaritime cycle route from Mont Saint Michel to Morlaix is challenging in terms of the length of the stages and the gradients. Only the very sporty can manage this without an e-bike. The weather and wind can also be challenging. However, you are rewarded with an exceptional coastal landscape, see the changing tides and experience nature up close. The beautiful gardens, which adorn almost every house, are also a feast for the eyes. The cycle path is excellently signposted and offers plenty of variety. Grand Angle organized charming hotels in very good locations and the luggage transport went smoothly. Brittany with its excellent cuisine and the freshness of fish and shellfish are a big plus, plus the friendliness of the Bretons. We were very impressed with the organization and, of course, the bike tour.
