Meet at your lodge in Rousset en Vercors at 14:00, a small village at the foot of the High Plateaux.
Equipment check (snowshoes, pulkas, bags). A short afternoon walk to stretch your legs. If you arrive later, please let your guide know; your equipment will then be checked at the end of the day.
What if, this year, you counted down to the New Year amid the snowy silence of the mountains? Grand Angle invites you to welcome the new year in an authentic way: a guided immersion in the Vercors massif. With your snowshoes on, you will explore a wild landscape where tracks left in the snow hint at the presence of wolves.
The highlight of this snowshoeing holiday in the Vercors is New Year’s Eve. After a festive meal, you will have a special choice: a comfortable night in the mountain hut, reserved exclusively for your group, or a more adventurous experience in the igloo you have built. This is the very essence of our group trips: time spent together, completely switching off and following the rhythm of winter.
Itinerary

Program
Set off for the Vercors High Plateaux with pulkas and snowshoes, heading to the Pré Grandu mountain hut. Settle into this hut, well equipped by the ONF and reserved exclusively for our group. The afternoon is devoted to building our igloos nearby. Enjoy the unforgettable experience of spending a day living like an Inuit! Depending on conditions, we may set off from the Col de Rousset.
Dinner and overnight stay at Pré Grandu. You will transport some of the supplies in the pulkas, with most of the food already delivered to the hut.
A beautiful walk beneath Grand Veymont (the highest peak in the Vercors: 2341m), in the heart of France’s largest Nature Reserve, with exceptional scenery. On our return, we will put the finishing touches to the igloos if needed.
A festive dinner and a special New Year’s Eve celebration at the hut.
Spend the night in an igloo or at the Pré Grandu mountain hut, as you prefer.
We may occasionally need to make minor changes to the itinerary shown, either for logistical reasons (accommodation capacity issues, splitting groups, changes in terrain conditions, etc.) or at the guide’s discretion (weather, the group’s ability). You can trust us: these changes are always made in your best interests, for your safety and greater comfort.

Technical and practical information
For walkers with moderate to good ability. You need to be fit and able to walk for 4 to 6 hours a day.
You will carry your luggage for part of the trip. On 01 January, you will carry a small backpack with your belongings for the day and your picnic lunch. You will carry your own luggage on 31 December and 2 January. We will have delivered most of the food to the mountain hut beforehand. The rest can be loaded into a few pulkas (Scandinavian sledges) provided for this purpose and pulled by participants. A pulka glides over the snow and requires less effort than carrying a loaded backpack. We provide one pulka for every 2 to 4 people.
Accommodation
Day 1 - In rooms for 2 to 4 people, in a guesthouse in Rousset en Vercors.
Days 2 and 3 - Pré Grandu mountain hut, from 31 December to 2 January: a small, basic hut in a remote location on the high plateaus of the Vercors, reserved exclusively for the group. A unique location in a wild and completely secluded setting. There are no showers at the hut.
A cosy New Year’s Eve celebration perfectly suited to mountain hut life, in a rustic setting surrounded by nature. As you would expect, you will sleep in a dormitory on comfortable mattresses. You will need a sleeping bag. When we arrive at the hut, we will need to light a fire (wood is available on site) to warm up, but the hut is fairly small and heats up very quickly.
A few words about igloos…
Building an igloo takes a little know-how, which your guide will be happy to teach you! An igloo for 3 to 4 people takes around 3 hours to build. Once it is built, a single candle transforms the space into a cathedral of light… why not spend the night there?
Don’t worry: we keep a well-equipped mountain hut available nearby, where you can sleep if a night in the igloo doesn’t suit you.
You will also learn an incredibly effective safety technique for harsh environments that you will never forget.
Meals
Half-board accommodation in a guesthouse, packed lunches and snacks for the trail. At the mountain hut, meals are prepared together. On New Year’s Eve, a festive meal at the hut with smoked salmon, foie gras, fondue, a surprise dessert, Clairette de Die, etc. Food is plentiful and all drinks are included.
A minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 14 people.
