A true natural fortress, the Vercors massif offers exceptional terrain for snowshoeing. Its vast, pristine plateaux, deep forests and panoramic ridges create varied, accessible landscapes. Far from the bustle of the major resorts, you will find an atmosphere that invites you to recharge and take in your surroundings. It is an ideal destination for beginners or those looking to improve their skills, offering a gentler, wilder alternative to other mountain ranges such as the Pyrenees or the Queyras.
At Grand Angle, we know that every traveller has their own definition of adventure. That is why we offer two ways to discover the Vercors in winter.
Our knowledge of the terrain also allows us to offer snowshoeing in a variety of forms. Explore the eastern balcony trails on a point-to-point journey, try a Nordic expedition with overnight stays in mountain huts, or combine walking and relaxation with our snowshoeing and wellness holidays, as we also offer in neighbouring Chartreuse. Each itinerary is designed to reveal a unique side of this mountain range in the Alps.
The ideal season for snowshoeing in the Vercors generally runs from late December to mid-March, when snow cover is at its best on the plateaux and in the forests. Travelling in January or March often means enjoying beautiful light and more stable conditions, away from the busiest school holiday periods.
Your choice of trip depends on your fitness level and expectations. Our detailed trip notes outline the daily walking time, elevation gain and level of comfort for each holiday. For your first trip, choose a centre-based itinerary with comfortable accommodation. For more active travellers, our point-to-point journeys and expeditions offer an invigorating challenge. Feel free to contact us for personalised advice; our team will help you find the trip that suits you.
Snowshoeing is a fun, accessible activity that is perfectly suited to family holidays in nature. Following the tracks of a mountain hare, sharing a hot chocolate in a mountain hut or building an igloo are all opportunities to create memories together. While our holidays in the Vercors are mainly aimed at adults, some shorter, self-guided itineraries may suit teenagers with previous experience. Contact us to discuss a tailor-made trip for your family.
