Taking a trip to Romania is literally stepping back in time and immersing yourself in the rural Europe of yesterday. Scenes abound: harnessed horses pulling carts, peasants plowing, hay scythed and carefully stacked in haystacks, rural life here rests on a delicate balance with nature, the principal wealth and foundation of an almost self-sufficient life.

Hiking in Romania

Walking through the thrilling landscapes of Transylvania, Maramures or Bucovina immerses you in a palette of greens, living countryside patiently shaped by mankind, where opportunities to meet people are plentiful. Whether you choose to explore the Carpathian mountains at your own pace, or prefer to be guided in discovering the preserved traditions of northern Romania, surprise and wonder await you!

Maramures and Bucovina, traditions and treasures

A small corner of the world situated in northern Romania, the Maramures region is the kingdom of wood! The forest that covers nearly half the territory is considered a treasure by the villagers… Wood is everywhere and sculpted architecture has forged the identity of Maramures over the centuries. No fewer than 8 churches are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, entirely built of wood, from tiles to flooring, with bell towers soaring more than 70 meters high! Bucovina, for its part, is the kingdom of monasteries! With facades entirely covered in colorful frescoes, the monasteries of Bucovina are small wonders. No fewer than 2000 Orthodox religious buildings dot this region which offers landscapes of great beauty near the Carpathian chain. Arriving on foot to discover these constructions in their natural setting is a delight…

—  This trip combined a visit to Bucharest with a hiking trip in the Carpathians, followed by a stay in the Danube Delta. The overall organization was excellent, and all the trips were great and complemented each other very well. The accommodations were very nice.

—  Visits to major cities were very interesting; the bike rides were sometimes monotonous
