Wild landscapes, welcoming inns and mountain huts make northern Europe rewarding for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and walking. Check each trip page for its route and available dates.
It is every cross-country skier’s dream: relatively easy trails across enormous ski areas, snow-covered landscapes and a season that varies with local conditions each year… Choose comfortable accommodation in Finland, in Äkäslompolo or Kiilopää, among other locations, to enjoy hundreds of kilometres of trails, or take a touring holiday from hotel to hotel, such as along the Peer Gynt trail.
For Nordic ski touring or snowshoeing, we love long treks through the largest national parks. In Norway, Jotunheimen reveals broad, long valleys inhabited by reindeer and ptarmigan, in a setting of high mountains and ice caps, with stays in welcoming mountain huts and hotels. The Hardangervidda plateau offers broad open landscapes beneath the Hardangerjøkulen ice cap. In Sweden, crossing Swedish Lapland brings an authentic sense of the Far North, amid the vast white valleys of Sweden’s highest mountains. At each stop, the completely isolated yet comfortable mountain huts, often equipped with a sauna, add to the feeling of a “polar expedition”.
Swedish Lapland also has a rich tradition of dog sledding. Check the individual trip pages to see which activities and accommodation are included.
For summer hiking, Jotunheimen is also an ideal destination for walking in the heart of an unspoilt national park.
