Like good Burgundians, Burgundy is an authentic journey. Sometimes rolling in the Morvan, sometimes crossing verdant countryside along the canals, sometimes precisely laid out through the vineyards, you will be charmed by these multiple facets.
Whether you explore by bike or spend extra time walking locally, Burgundy offers rich religious, gastronomic, architectural and historical heritage.
Letting yourself drift along the canals on cycle paths or old shaded railway lines that have been converted, you will cycle off the beaten path as you please: stroll through a romantic historic château such as the one in Châtillon-en-Bazois, discover the historic Abbey of Cluny, visit a renowned cellar and taste a Chablis on the Burgundy canal, immerse yourself in Romanesque art or dream for a while at one of the many locks on the Nivernais canal.
The Burgundy Canal by bike, at your own pace, takes you from Renaissance châteaux at Tanlay or Ancy-le-Franc, to the Cistercian abbey of Fontenay, also part of UNESCO heritage, to Dijon, the capital of the Dukes of Burgundy. This discovery of Burgundy by bike is easily complemented by the southern Burgundy stay which descends to Cluny and its abbey, passing through the famous hospices of Beaune.
If you enjoy active discovery, explore the Morvan Regional Natural Park on an itinerant mountain bike tour. You will traverse contrasting reliefs, skirt along its lakes and rivers, will not forget to climb Haut Forlin for its panorama, you will navigate some technical trails and discover scenery of great forest and meadow diversity.
Whether you wish to explore Burgundy’s distinctive vineyard plots with celebrated names such as Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos Vougeot, Santenay, Romanée Conti, … or descend on the mythical path laden with history of St James of Compostela, you will be charmed by the richness and diversity of the heritage that opens before your eyes.
Discovery by hiking will take you through the Morvan Regional Park, from flower-filled meadows to listed villages such as Vézelay, from forests with ochre-yellow facades before reaching Château-Chinon, on the ridges or through the vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin for example.
Saint James of Compostela or the art of taking part in a piece of history or finding yourself during a legendary hike.
