On the “Portugal’s Atlantic Coast by Bike” holiday, you follow the coastline from Caminha, in the far north of the country, to the pretty fishing port of Mira along the “senda litoral”. Between these two stops, you discover stunning landscapes and charming towns, with the UNESCO World Heritage city of Porto as a highlight. Its 150 monuments, lively atmosphere, steep streets, waterfront quays and towering bridges along the Douro are sure to charm you. Be sure to visit Aveiro next, a lovely town criss-crossed by canals where large, colourful boats glide along the water.
On the “From Porto to Lisbon by Bike”, cycling holiday, you explore two UNESCO World Heritage cities and cycle freely along the coast with the wind in your hair. Along the way, pine forests, dunes, sandy beaches and colourful villages such as Aveiro, Costa Nova and Praia de Mira delight you. Your adventure continues along Portugal’s Silver Coast and the “Estrada Atlântica” cycle path. After the legendary port of Nazaré and the whitewashed walled town of Óbidos, you head to Lisbon, with its fascinating architecture and viewpoints where you can take in peaceful views over the capital and the Tagus.
For lovers of sunshine and adventure, head to the Algarve on one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Portugal and south-western Europe. Starting in delightful Lisbon, you head towards Arrábida Natural Park, through wild hills and along magnificent beaches as far as Setúbal. A short ferry crossing gives you the chance to watch dolphins and birds in the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, before continuing by bike on the Tróia Peninsula, in the heart of the Alentejo region, to reach Sines. You then arrive on the Costa Vicentina, one of Europe’s most beautiful stretches of coastline, dotted with cliffs, dunes, coves and villages. Here, you can enjoy unforgettable sunsets. The next stage takes you into the Algarve, to the fishing village of Sagres and the spectacular cliffs of Cape St Vincent, with breathtaking panoramic views!

— A wonderful cycling tour, with magnificent scenery, comfortable and welcoming hotels, and many kilometers of off-road riding on gravel trails—a real treat for those who love it. Be sure to have a suitable bike. The Portuguese organizers are professional, always on time, and friendly—everything was taken care of.

— Nice trip, but paths unsuitable for cycling: stony. Large water holes. In fact, these are the roads to Santiago de Compostela…
Hello Marie-Claude,
Thank you for your feedback! As indicated in our technical sheet and the day-by-day itinerary on our website, it’s mainly during Stage 4 that the route takes you on more paths—which are rockier, cobblestone, and a bit more challenging to bike on. The other days are spent mainly on roads. This is part of the route’s authentic charm. We hope you had a wonderful trip and that you’ll cherish the memories!
