In the world of travel, Morocco is often synonymous with “first”: first distant adventure trip, first trekking, first summit over 4000 mmetres… but also first trek in the desert with its essential bivouac in the dunes. Just a few hours from France, Morocco offers a multitude of atmospheres, guaranteeing unparalleled cultural immersion.
Morocco offers great diversity of landscapes and climates, which allows you to organise treks almost year-round, as long as you choose your region and period well.
For desert lovers, stays are scheduled mainly in autumn and in winter - October, November, December, January, February and March - to avoid the intense summer heat of the Sahara.
April and May should be reserved for other destinations like Greece or Southern Italy because in Morocco, these months mark the transition between seasons: the desert starts to become too hot, while the mountains are not yet completely free of snow.
If you dream of peaks and cool air, the Toubkal ascent — the highest peak in North Africa — takes place in summer and early autumn in July, August or September, the ideal period to enjoy milder temperatures at altitude. Finally, treks in the Valley of Roses, between mountains, gardens and kasbahs, are offered in September and October, when the light is soft and the landscapes lush. Each season in Morocco reveals a unique face, to explore according to your desires for adventure.
With its warm light and bustling souks, Marrakech proves to be a perfect gateway for hikers heading to the Atlas Mountains. A few hours and a few mountain passes later, the traveller finds themselves immersed in peaceful villages with earth houses where mountain life unfolds at the unchanging rhythm of the seasons. An important mountain barrier, the Atlas chain offers a multitude of routes, from day hikes, village to village, to larger-scale treks, using the alpine meadows, ridges, passes or canyons that streak the massif and allow nomadic herders to move at the pace of their herds.
Further south, welcome to the desert where vast rocky spaces and tabular mountains open their arms to the nearby Grand Sahara. With their vast palm groves, the oases of the Draa Valley cut through the landscape with a long green streak. Soon the visitor finds themselves captivated by the gentle undulations and shimmering colours of the sand that subtly inhabits the landscape. Welcome to the desert of our childhood dreams where camels move in caravans to cross the ergs! Both very accessible and highly aesthetic, the Moroccan desert is ideal for experiencing the joys of camel trekking and bivouac. Walking in the dunes guarantees total immersion, conducive to rejuvenating rest far from any known landmarks…
All our treks in Morocco are led by experienced guides, true culture bearers and expert knowledge holders of the regions traversed. Beyond the safety they ensure on the trails, their presence deeply enriches the travel experience. They gladly share their knowledge of the terrain, Berber customs, fauna, flora and local history, while facilitating exchanges with local people.
With a guide, you walk with a free mind, without worrying about the route or logistics: each evening, the camp is set up, meals prepared, and the pace adapted to the group. Whether in the Atlas Mountains or in the vast stretches of the desert, trekking with a guide allows you to experience a trek in complete peace of mind, with a human and authentic touch that gives true meaning to the adventure.
Ready to trek in Morocco for 5 days days and more?

— Of the 6 days in the dessert, 3 were spent enjoying the desert and the dunes. For the other 3 days, it was not pleasant to walk through rocky fields. On the last night, we slept in an unshaded field next to a noisy road.
Hello,
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry that some of the rockier sections and the last campsite didn’t meet your expectations. It’s true that the desert alternates between dunes and oases, but it also includes rockier stretches that can sometimes be less easy to drive on and monotonous. We trust our partners and guides—who are the most knowledgeable on the ground—to manage each leg of the journey and adapt the route based on conditions, the group’s needs, and skill level, in order to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety. We will pass your comments on to the local teams and hope that, despite everything, you will still have fond memories of your trip.
Best regards,
The Grand Angle Team

— A 12-day trip allows for real immersion: the desert, the staff who accompany you, the weather, the type of accommodation, the meals, the guide's comments (biology, geology, tradition, botany, economy, history…).
