The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is much more than a hike; it is a true odyssey through the heart of the Alpine massif, a legendary route encircling the highest peak in Western Europe. Walking this trail means crossing three countries — France, Italy and Switzerland — and immersing yourself each day in distinctive mountain landscapes and cultures. At Grand Angle, specialists in trekking in the Alps since 1983, we guide you along this exceptional route, one of Europe’s most iconic Alpine itineraries, whether you choose the comfort of a group trek or the independence of a self-guided walking holiday.
The adventure begins in Haute-Savoie, where the climb to the Col de Balme opens the way into Switzerland and offers spectacular views of the Tour and Argentière glaciers. The next day, the route is adapted to your group: a balcony trail through the Alpine pastures of Bovine or a more mountainous route via the famous Fenêtre d’Arpette. Crossing into Italy via the Grand Col Ferret immerses you in the unique atmosphere of Val Ferret, with the legendary rock faces of the Grandes Jorasses as your backdrop. The return to France takes you over the Col de la Seigne, through the landscapes of Savoie, before completing this unforgettable journey overlooking the Bionnassay glacier. Each stage brings new discoveries, punctuated by crossings of the TMB’s iconic Alpine passes and possible encounters with elusive wildlife, from curious marmots to majestic ibex.
Because every walker has their own preferences, Grand Angle offers several ways to experience this adventure. Our 7-day guided trip is a well-balanced classic, while our complete TMB in 9 days allows for a more immersive experience. For those who prefer to walk at their own pace, the 7-day self-guided Tour du Mont Blanc offers complete flexibility, with a 11-day version also available for those who want time to savour every panorama. And if you would like to experience the TMB at a more approachable pace, discover our easy walking holiday in the spirit of the Tour du Mont Blanc, an excellent option for a first taste of the route or a family holiday in the Alps. See also our tips for completing the TMB as a beginner.
Considering when to walk the Tour du Mont Blanc is essential. The ideal period runs from late June to mid-September, offering optimal conditions for enjoying flower-lined trails and sunny days. Whether you choose to set off in spring or in September for the autumn colours, our experienced walking guides keep you safe and share their knowledge of the terrain. With Grand Angle, you can set off with peace of mind: we take care of the logistics, luggage transfers and bookings for quality accommodation, so you can focus on what matters most: walking and taking in the scenery. A number of our trips offer opportunities to swim, either along the day’s route or at the end of the day. It would be a shame not to make the most of them. However, we emphasise that you alone must judge whether it is appropriate to swim; you therefore swim at your own risk and take full responsibility for doing so.

— This was one of the best trips of my life!! Physically, the hiking was challenging, but doable, which was what my party was looking for. Every minute of the day, the views were SPECTACULAR!!! Literally breathtaking. Our guide took great care of us and we LOVED our 3 course meals every night in the different, fascinating cities. We also met so many fun and friendly people on the Tour. Loved it all❤️
