Spring offers a unique window for hiking in Europe. You’ll often find yourself on trails that are less crowded than in the peak of summer, allowing for a more serene experience. The weather is typically mild and pleasant, perfect for long days of walking without the intensity of summer heat. It’s also the season of renewal; witness landscapes bursting with wildflowers and lush greenery, from the terraced coastlines of Italy to the mountainous meadows of the Alps. This time of year provides a fresh perspective on Europe’s most beautiful natural trips.
At Grand Angle, we specialize in creating hiking experiences that match your travel style. Whether you crave independence or prefer the structure of a group, we handle the logistics so you can focus on the trail ahead.
Our self-guided hiking tours are designed for those who love independence. You choose your dates and travel at your own pace, guided by a detailed roadbook, maps, and GPS tracks we provide. We take care of booking comfortable accommodations and arranging luggage transfers, giving you the freedom to immerse yourself in your surroundings without the weight of a heavy pack.
For those who enjoy sharing the journey, our guided tours in Europe offer the perfect blend of expert leadership and small-group camaraderie. A professional local guide will lead the way, sharing insights into the region’s culture, history, and nature. It’s an excellent way to discover a destination’s hidden gems while enjoying a sociable and supportive atmosphere.
From Mediterranean islands to iconic pilgrimage routes, our spring portfolio covers some of Europe’s most spectacular landscapes.
In spring, Italy is a hiker’s paradise. Witness the vibrant coastal villages of the Cinque Terre & the Portofino Peninsula, where the hillsides are covered in lush vegetation. For mountain lovers, it’s the perfect time to explore the Dolomites on a hiking tour, as the valleys turn green against the backdrop of snow-dusted peaks on routes like the famous Alta Via 1.
Experience an adventure in Greece, where spring brings a sea of wildflowers and ideal walking temperatures. Our trips allow you to discover the unique character of each island, from a guided Cretan odyssey to a self-guided tour of the Cyclades. Hike ancient paths connecting whitewashed villages and enjoy stunning views over the Aegean Sea.
Discover the diverse landscapes of France on an adventure tour this spring. The pre-Alpine regions, such as the Vercors, are particularly beautiful as they emerge from winter. A tour of the Vercors Mountains reveals a plateau of immense skies, deep gorges, and a rich variety of flora and fauna awakening for the season.
Walking the Camino Francés to Santiago de Compostela is a profound experience, and spring is one of the best times to do it. The rolling hills of Galicia are brilliantly green, and the convivial spirit among pilgrims is palpable. As one of our most popular long-distance walking tours in Europe, it offers a unique blend of personal reflection and shared human connection.
Early spring is perfect for Mediterranean destinations. We recommend hiking in April in places like Crete or the Cyclades to see the wildflowers in full bloom. For mountain treks in the Alps and Dolomites, late spring is better, as conditions in June generally ensure that most snow has melted from the high passes.
Spring weather can be unpredictable, so layering is key. Be prepared for everything from warm sunshine to cool showers. For detailed recommendations on what to bring, consult our expert guides, such as our day hike packing list and our advice on how to choose hiking poles. Proper preparation ensures a comfortable and enjoyable trip.
Travelers who enjoy hiking in spring often return to discover Europe in other seasons. Consider an autumn hike to experience the same landscapes transformed by fiery colors. If you loved exploring Greece on foot, why not return for a bike tour in Greece? Spring is also a wonderful season for cycling, with many of our most popular self-guided bike tours in Europe available, from the classic Danube bike path to the châteaux of the Loire Valley. If you have a specific project in mind, don’t hesitate to ask about our customized tours in Europe by reaching out to us through our contact page.
Jean-Michel 6/23/26 • Hiking in Greece: Self-guided trip in the Cyclades
— These are some really beautiful hikes, but June 10–19 is a little too late in the season because of the heat. For most of the hikes, it’s impossible to set out early due to bus schedules and breakfast times at the hotels.
Jean_Louis 6/29/26 • Corsica: Northern GR20 with luggage transfers
— The route is as difficult as stated in the brochure, even dangerous in some sections, but extraordinarily beautiful, all the more so as we had good weather all week. The guide was friendly and attentive whenever one of us ran into difficulty, and the welcome at the refuges was warm. To be done by fit people who aren't prone to vertigo!

— A magnificent hike, very varied. The on-site agent (Javi) was very competent and friendly, and taught us a lot about Menorca, its history, its wildlife, its flora and its birds, and orchestrated our stay perfectly. A hike best done in spring or autumn.
