Traveling in spring, particularly from March to May, allows you to experience Europe at its most refreshing. You’ll enjoy pleasant, mild weather that’s perfect for hiking and cycling, without the intense heat of summer. It’s also a chance to explore iconic destinations with fewer crowds, offering a more authentic and peaceful experience. From blooming wildflowers in the Alps to lush, green coastlines, the landscapes are vibrant and full of life, providing a stunning setting for your active holiday.
Spring is an exceptional time for hiking in Europe, with trails lined by wildflowers and comfortable temperatures for walking. In destinations like the Dolomites, late spring melts the snow to reveal lush meadows and accessible paths. Whether you’re interested in a coastal trek in Greece or a mountain traverse, our self-guided hiking trips provide the perfect balance of adventure and independence. Remember to pack accordingly for changing weather; our day hike packing list can help you prepare.
The gentle warmth of spring makes it an ideal season for self-guided bike tours in Europe. Pedal along legendary rivers like the Danube or through the vineyard-draped hills of Tuscany before the summer crowds arrive. The days are long and the landscapes are bursting with color, from the tulip fields in Holland to the coasts of France. For tips on what to bring, check out our comprehensive bike trip packing guide.
From the rugged coastline of Brittany to the rolling vineyards of Burgundy, spring in France offers diverse landscapes for every traveler. Cycle the famous Loire Valley, where fairytale chateaux are framed by blossoming gardens, or explore the sun-drenched paths along the Atlantic coast. This season showcases the country’s natural beauty at its most vibrant, making it a prime time for one of our France adventure tours.
Experience the Mediterranean before the peak summer season with a trip to Greece or Italy. Discover the charm of the Greek islands on a hiking tour in the Cyclades or pedal through ancient olive groves in Corfu. In Italy, the pleasant spring climate is perfect for a bike tour in Tuscany or tackling a trek in the magnificent Dolomites. These adventure travel experiences in Greece and Italy offer a wonderful blend of culture, cuisine, and outdoor activity.
Whether you prefer the structure and expertise of a guided tour in Europe or the flexibility of a self-guided journey, we have an option to suit your style. Spring travel can be more affordable than in summer, but it’s wise to book in advance, especially around holidays. If you’re looking for an active family holiday, spring break is an excellent time to explore Europe’s cities and natural wonders with fewer crowds. For any questions or to start planning, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Travelers who appreciate the renewal of a spring trip often enjoy the rich colors of Europe in autumn for hiking and cycling. Many of our destinations offer year-round appeal; for instance, the mountains of Austria are just as inviting for hiking in summer as they are for snowshoeing in winter. If you’re drawn to the landscapes of the Mediterranean, consider exploring our adventures in Portugal or Spain. Jean-Michel 6/23/26 • Hiking in Greece: Self-guided trip in the Cyclades
— These are some really beautiful hikes, but June 10–19 is a little too late in the season because of the heat. For most of the hikes, it’s impossible to set out early due to bus schedules and breakfast times at the hotels.
Jean_Louis 6/29/26 • Corsica: Northern GR20 with luggage transfers
— The route is as difficult as stated in the brochure, even dangerous in some sections, but extraordinarily beautiful, all the more so as we had good weather all week. The guide was friendly and attentive whenever one of us ran into difficulty, and the welcome at the refuges was warm. To be done by fit people who aren't prone to vertigo!

Evelyne 7/6/26
— A magnificent hike, very varied. The on-site agent (Javi) was very competent and friendly, and taught us a lot about Menorca, its history, its wildlife, its flora and its birds, and orchestrated our stay perfectly. A hike best done in spring or autumn.
Jean-François 8/15/26
— The organization was excellent, and we received a very warm welcome at the hotels. The route is beautiful, but it lacks challenge and mountain biking sections.
