Your walking holiday in Austrian Tyrol with Grand Angle

Tyrol, a unique walking destination

Choosing a trek in Tyrol means immersing yourself in the heart of the Austrian Alps. This region stands out for its hospitality, its excellent facilities (trails and mountain huts) and its varied landscapes, from flower-filled mountain pastures to the foot of towering rocky peaks such as the Kaisergebirge, the “Emperor Mountains”. It is a destination that perfectly combines the exertion of walking with the comforts of an authentic Alpine culture, reflected in the atmosphere of its villages and its local cuisine.

At your own pace: our holiday options for exploring Tyrol in Austria

Our first-hand knowledge of the region allows us to offer experiences suited to your expectations, whether you are an independent walker or prefer to be accompanied.

With our self-guided walking holidays, you set off on your chosen date and walk at your own pace. We take care of booking your accommodation and transferring your luggage. Each day, you carry only a small backpack, following an itinerary detailed in the route notes we provide. It is the ideal option for those seeking flexibility and independence while enjoying seamless logistics.

Our group holidays in Austrian Tyrol

If you prefer to share your experience and benefit from a local expert’s knowledge, our group walking holidays are for you. Led by a French-speaking mountain walking guide who knows the region inside out, you discover hidden trails and local culture in a friendly atmosphere. The group offers opportunities to connect with others and encourage one another.

Holidays to suit every interest in 2026

Tyrol lends itself to a wide range of outdoor activities. While trekking in Austria takes centre stage, we have also designed holidays that combine walking with other enjoyable pursuits.

  • Classic walking holidays: From day walks based at comfortable accommodation to longer point-to-point treks such as the circuit of the Kaisergebirge.
  • Walking & Wellbeing : Some of our holidays, such as those in Walchsee, combine accessible walks with time to relax and recharge in hotels with wellness facilities.
  • Other activities: The region is also a wonderful setting for cycling holidays in Austria along its valleys or, in winter, for snowshoeing outings.

Our tips for your trek in Tyrol

When should you visit Austrian Tyrol?

The walking season runs mainly from June to October. Travelling in September often means enjoying settled weather, autumn colours and quieter trails. Early summer brings longer days and mountain pastures filled with flowers.

How should you choose your walking holiday?

Your choice will depend on your fitness level and what you would like to do. Holidays such as the “Emperor Mountains Circuit” require a good level of fitness, while walks around lakes and villages are more accessible. Take the time to read the detailed trip information for each holiday to understand the level required. If you are unsure, feel free to contact our advisers; they can help you find the holiday that suits you.

Tyrol with the family

With its well-marked trails, welcoming mountain huts and landscapes full of interest for children (lakes, forests and mountain pastures), Tyrol is an excellent destination for introducing children and teenagers to walking. We design itineraries suited to younger walkers' pace for enjoyable family holidays in nature. Feel free to explore our family walking holidays for inspiration.

—  Beautiful Hikes The scenery is beautiful, and the trails are well-maintained. Some of the hikes are a bit more challenging than you’d expect for a Level 2 hike. Very pleasant accommodations: the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The meals are varied, and we really enjoyed the pool.

—  Overall, it was good. We had good meals at every place we stayed. Except for one, the accommodations (hostels, mountain huts, hotels) were very clean, and the people were very kind and welcoming. I think there was a bit too much driving; we prefer hiking trails.

—  A truly wonderful week in the stunning landscapes of the Austrian Tyrol. The trails were magnificent and, thankfully, shaded by the majestic forests, which allowed us to hike despite the exceptionally high temperatures (29–35°C). It was a perfect week, thanks in large part to the professionalism of Guillaume, our amazing guide, and the super-friendly group. The accommodations were top-notch. This was my first experience with Grand Angle, and it’s made me want to do it again.
