You probably love organizing your hikes yourself: finding the route, booking accommodations, arranging transfers. It’s a real pleasure, and no one does it better than you. But sometimes you want the freedom of the trail without the evening logistics, or conversely, to let yourself be guided. There is no right way to travel: there is yours.
Since 1983, Grand Angle designs walking and cycling trips for all preferences, from complete independence to guided travel, and from long-distance trails to base camp stays. Two questions determine almost everything: do you prefer to travel in complete independence or in a small guided group? And advance each day or explore from a base camp? In six questions, this quiz combines your two answers and shows you the combination, and the trips, that match you.
Your trip organization, ideally:

What appeals to you most:
The independent adventurer (freedom · itinerary)

You enjoy organizing everything yourself and advancing each day toward a new destination. That’s exactly the spirit of self-guided itinerant travel: you’re the guide, map and GPS trace in hand, but we reserve your accommodations and transfer your luggage from stage to stage (how does a self-guided trip work). The freedom of the path, without evening logistics. Head toward our itinerant trips and self-guided, or along the great mythical routes: the Stevenson Trail, Compostela, our great itineraries).
The independent person who likes to settle down (freedom · star)

Walk freely, at your own pace, but from a single base camp where you can set down your luggage: the star-based stay in freedom is for you. You depart alone or with loved ones, with no guide or logistics to manage, and you explore each day on a new itinerary without ever repacking your bag. And if you enjoy a bit of movement, the semi-itinerant is the ideal compromise.
The sociable traveler on the move (guided · itinerary)

You enjoy group life, a passionate guide who tells the stories of the places, and the feeling of advancing from one stage to the next. Our itinerant trips in guided format are made for you: a small group of 6 to 13 people, a specialist guide for the region, and a crossing where the path is the red thread. Explore our guided trips).
The sociable person who likes to settle down (guided · star)

The conviviality of a group and a guide, but without changing accommodation each evening: the star-based stay guided is your formula. A comfortable base camp, a guide who opens the region’s most beautiful trails for you, and the joy of exploring during the day, carefree. See our guided trips).

Two independent criteria, your ideal journey
At Grand Angle, two choices shape your journey, and they combine freely. On one side the formula: the self-guided journey, where you’re the guide while we manage all the logistics, or the guided journey in a small group led by an expert. On the other side the pace: touring, a new destination each day, or base camp, a home base from which to explore, with semi-itinerant as the middle ground. Your journey combines these two axes: independence or group and movement or home base.
The formula you choose also determines transfers. Our tips for taking a taxi abroad help you prepare arrivals and the journeys you arrange yourself.
