Your questions about single-centre holidays

Single-centre walking holidays appeal to travellers for their simplicity and comfort. Here are our answers to the questions you may have as you prepare for your next adventure.

Why choose a single-centre holiday?

Choosing a single-centre holiday means enjoying the comfort of one place to stay as a base for your daily explorations. The main advantage is that you do not have to deal with luggage logistics every morning. You can make the most of your days out walking, with peace of mind and the certainty of returning to familiar, comfortable surroundings at the end of the day. This type of holiday is ideal for immersing yourself in a region, taking the time to discover its hidden treasures and settling into the local rhythm of life.

How do our holidays work?

At Grand Angle, we offer our single-centre holidays in two formats to suit different ways of getting away.

  • Guided group holidays: Share your experience with fellow nature enthusiasts and benefit from the expertise of a mountain walking guide. Your guide will lead you along the most beautiful trails, often off the beaten track, and share their knowledge of the terrain, wildlife, plants and local culture. This is the perfect option for a sociable guided walking holiday in France or elsewhere in Europe.
  • Self-guided holidays: For those who prefer to walk at their own pace, our self-guided option offers independence with the arrangements taken care of. We book your accommodation and provide a comprehensive travel pack including maps, detailed route notes and GPS tracks. You can set off with confidence, following an itinerary we have carefully prepared for you.

What are our leading destinations for single-centre walking holidays?

Our expertise allows us to offer a wide variety of destinations, whether you are drawn to the sea or to mountain walking.

  • In the heart of the Alps: Explore the magnificent landscapes of the Queyras, the panoramic trails of the Vercors or the iconic peaks of the Dolomites, an exceptional playground for walkers.
  • Along the coast and on the islands: Let yourself be charmed by the wild beauty of Brittany, the colourful villages of the Cinque Terre or the unspoilt treasures of Mediterranean islands such as Crete and Corfu.
  • Distinctive regions and mountain ranges: Set off to discover regions with a strong local identity, whether trekking in the Pyrenees in the Basque Country or exploring the unique panoramas of the Massif Central.

Our tips for preparing your holiday

Choosing the right holiday is essential to making your experience a success. Consider the difficulty level of the walks, shown on each trip page, which varies according to the elevation gain and the duration of each day’s walk. The best time to travel depends on the destination: spring and autumn are often ideal for Mediterranean regions, while summer is perfect for enjoying the mountains. For help with your preparations, take a look at our advice on how to pack your backpack.

What about single-centre holidays for families?

Single-centre holidays are particularly well suited to family nature holidays. They avoid the fatigue of changing accommodation every day and make it easier to adapt the programme to the energy levels of children and adults alike. They offer a comfortable, reassuring way to introduce children to the joys of walking while enjoying relaxing moments together. Some of our holidays include fun activities and routes designed especially for families.

Discover other horizons in the spirit of single-centre holidays

Travellers who appreciate the comfort and in-depth exploration of a region offered by single-centre holidays are often also drawn to our bike and boat holidays, which combine two gentle ways of travelling for a different approach to exploring.

If you feel inspired to venture further, our point-to-point holidays let you cross entire mountain ranges, whether on a holiday around Mont Blanc or along the trails of the GR20 in Corsica. Feel free to contact us to discuss your ideas for your next adventure.

—  Beautiful Hikes The scenery is beautiful, and the trails are well-maintained. Some of the hikes are a bit more challenging than you’d expect for a Level 2 hike. Very pleasant accommodations: the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The meals are varied, and we really enjoyed the pool.

—  A wonderful trip that met all our expectations: hikes of moderate difficulty, with breathtaking views, and above all, a guide who was very attentive to our group of 15 people. Laurent was able to accommodate our varying skill levels and took great care of all of us—and on top of that, he prepared excellent picnics for us! A wonderful week of hiking in a fantastic setting!
