A specialist in walking holidays in Corsica, Grand Angle invites you to immerse yourself in the landscapes between land and sea on the Mare e Monti Nord trails.

This holiday, staying in more than one location, will take you from the mountainous valleys of the interior to the spectacular shores of the Gulf of Porto.

The adventure begins in the heart of authentic Corsica, exploring natural treasures such as Lake Creno, the island’s only glacial lake surrounded by a forest of Corsican pines and carpeted with water lilies. The route then leads you through villages full of character and the Spellunca Gorge, carved into pink granite, before heading towards the coast.

The second part of the trip is devoted to exploring the western coastline. A boat trip offers stunning views of the Scandola Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the famous Calanques de Piana and the village of Girolata, accessible only on foot or by sea.

This walking holiday is offered as a guided walking holiday for a relaxed and rewarding experience. For those who prefer to explore independently, an alternative version of this holiday is available: Self-Guided Mare e Monti Nord.

Program

Welcome in Ajaccio, followed by a transfer to the heart of the lush Deux-Sorru valley. Settle into your hotel for 3 nights and explore the village.

Accommodation2* hotel

Following a variant of the Mare a Mare Nord, we head upstream along the beautiful Liamone River beneath pleasant woodland cover. We reach the pretty little village of Letia, the starting point for a sightseeing visit to the remarkable village of Muna, which feels frozen in time, at the foot of Punta di a Spusata (Bride’s Peak, 1191m).

Starting from the village of Soccia, this walk takes you gradually up to the legendary Lake Creno, with its Corsican pine forest, water lilies, pozzines (waterlogged mountain meadows) and devilish reputation. The return route follows the wild Zoicu valley, where a succession of natural pools offers opportunities for swimming.

Following the Tra Mare e Monti trail, you will venture through the gorge on a breathtaking route between granite walls, scented by the maquis scrub. After a short transfer to Porto, and weather permitting*, we board a boat for an unforgettable visit to Scandola and Girolata. This reserve was the first natural site to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, partly thanks to its extraordinary, spectacular cliffs plunging into pristine waters and its protected land and marine wildlife. On the return journey, a brief stop will be offered at the harbour of Girolata, a charming fishing village accessible only by sea or on foot. Finally, a visit to the famous Calanques de Piana will round off this day of discovery.* If poor weather conditions prevent the boat trip from taking place, an alternative hike will be arranged.

A coastal walk with a wonderfully diverse display of flowers in spring. You will find almost all the plants characteristic of the Corsican coast here. This walk also has a historical dimension, taking you in the footsteps of the Genoese. You will visit the Turghju tower, perched on the enormous rock known as Capu Rossu. You return along the same path. In the afternoon, return along the west coast to Ajaccio.

—  The trip was better than described and the hotels and food were very comfortable and clean. The guide brought amazing snacks and even wine on the trail. The trip had the right level of difficulty described. The guide gave a lot of information about Corsica and history. I feel like the partner agency Corsica adventures put a lot of love into planning for their guests and it showed. Their passion for Corsica and the people is evident.
