Germany is a destination of surprising diversity for hikers. The country is home to vast protected areas, including the Bavarian Forest, Europe’s largest protected forest, and the iconic landscapes of the Black Forest. You can wander through deep gorges carved by glacial rivers, follow panoramic ridge walks in the Thuringian Forest, or explore fairytale castles nestled in rolling hills. The southern region is dominated by the spectacular Alps hiking tours, offering everything from gentle lakeside strolls to challenging cross-border treks. This well-maintained network of trails, combined with a rich culture of hospitality, makes Germany adventure travel an exceptional choice for active travelers.
At Grand Angle, we handle the logistics so you can focus on the journey. Our deep-rooted local partnerships and decades of experience ensure that your accommodation is welcoming, your routes are well-documented, and support is always available. We design our trips to give you both a sense of adventure and complete peace of mind.
We believe in travel that adapts to you. That’s why we offer different ways to experience Germany’s trails:
The Bavarian Alps are the heart of Germany’s mountain scenery, where jagged peaks tower over serene lakes and vibrant meadows. This region offers a lifetime of exploration, from the famous Partnach Gorge to panoramic routes overlooking castles like Neuschwanstein. Our iconic trek from Munich to Venice begins in this stunning landscape, taking you from the rolling foothills near Munich into the heart of the high Alps. For those dedicated to this region, we have a specific selection of tours for hiking in the Bavarian Alps.
The ideal time for hiking in Germany is from late spring to early autumn. Summer (June to August) offers warm weather and long days, perfect for high-altitude treks in the Alps, though it can be popular. For fewer crowds and a spectacle of color, consider hiking in late spring (May) for wildflowers or in autumn (September to October) when the forests are golden.
Your packing list will depend on the trek’s difficulty and season, but some essentials are universal. Sturdy, broken-in hiking boots are a must. Layering is key, so pack moisture-wicking base layers, a fleece or insulated jacket, and a waterproof/windproof outer shell. For more detailed suggestions, check out our guides on creating a day hike packing list and how to choose hiking poles.
If the grandeur of the German Alps inspires you, you may also enjoy the pristine landscapes of neighboring Austria hiking tours or the majestic peaks of the Dolomites hiking tours in Italy. For a different but equally rewarding challenge, consider the rugged trails and volcanic scenery on our Madeira hiking tours.
Germany’s varied terrain is also a paradise for cyclists. Many travelers who enjoy hiking here also love our bicycle tours in Germany. Imagine pedaling along scenic river paths like the Danube or through the vineyards of the Rhine Valley, offering a different perspective on the landscapes you’ve come to love.

— A beautiful and varied itinerary through unspoiled landscapes. A particularly enjoyable experience of traveling with very comfortable accommodations that compensate for the physical effort required. An unforgettable arrival in Venice!

— Participants are slow because they don't know how to hike in the mountains and/or are overweight. .
Hello, thank you for your feedback. On a guided group tour, participants may have different skill levels and paces. The guide must therefore adapt to the group so that everyone can enjoy the trip under the best possible conditions. We hope, nonetheless, that you enjoyed the experience and the scenery along the way.

Sophie 12/27/25 • Munich to Venice: Guided Journey Across the Alps
— The hiking trip from Munich to Venice through Bavaria, Austria and the Dolomites was absolutely fantastic. In addition to the magnificent, grandiose sites, the top-notch hotel accommodation and the warm, varied refuges, the combination of culture, discovery and physical effort was truly appreciable. And, to top it all off, we had an exceptional guide who, although she had never guided this trip before, had prepared it thoroughly. Juliette Leblic, with her smile, her joy in sharing her passion and knowledge (geology, fauna, flora, environment, poetry, reading…), her mastery of the German language, her availability and her ability to listen, immediately ensured perfect group cohesion. I recommend this trip, especially when accompanied by Juliette.
