Prepare for Your Adriatic Adventure

Active holidays in the Adriatic for all fitness levels

Our Adriatic holidays cater to a wide range of adventurers. Whether you are an occasional touring cyclist looking for coastal rides with a view or an experienced hiker keen to explore steep trails, you will find an itinerary to suit you.

Each trip description clearly sets out the required level: daily activity duration, elevation gain and terrain type (cycle paths, mountain trails or quiet roads). We clearly indicate whether the holiday is suitable for families, moderate or challenging.

Take a look at the difficulty icons for each holiday and contact us for personalised advice.

For inspiration and to start dreaming, take a look at our selection of Croatia’s most beautiful landscapes.

When is the best time for a holiday around the Adriatic?

Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are generally the ideal seasons. You can enjoy mild temperatures that are perfect for physical activity, lush scenery or vibrant autumn colours, and fewer tourists than in high summer. Summer (July-August) is also an option, especially if you want to make the most of swimming, but expect hotter weather, particularly for activities in the middle of the day.

Do I need to bring my own bike or hiking equipment?

For most of our cycling holidays, quality bike hire (hybrid bikes, mountain bikes and often electric bikes) is included or available as an optional extra to make your arrangements easier. For hiking, we provide a detailed list of recommended equipment (boots, backpack, etc.) in each trip’s information sheet. For specific items (helmet or repair kit for self-guided trips), always refer to the “Equipment” section of your chosen holiday.

Which country should I visit around the Adriatic?

All of them, one trip at a time. Here are the countries bordering the Adriatic:

Are Adriatic holidays guided or self-guided?

Grand Angle offers both ways to explore the Adriatic! Our group holidays are led by passionate local guides who enrich your journey with their knowledge and take care of all the logistics. If you prefer to travel independently, our self-guided holidays provide detailed route notes, GPS tracks and often luggage transfers, leaving you free to set your own pace. Each trip clearly indicates whether it is “guided” or “self-guided”.

—  Wonderful family cycling trip with two teenage daughters. Sublime scenery, with flower-filled countryside (Easter vacations), lush greenery and wild, jagged coasts with no mass tourism. The villages are full of architectural gems. The roads winding through the fields are virtually car-free, and we were surprised that there was so little traffic even along the coast, with motorists very respectful of bicycles. Very nice and comfortable hotels in the superior category. Very good quality bikes. Extremely practical route planner. Beware, the wind can blow very hard and with our muscular bikes, we really struggled for two days with the head-on sirocco. No such problem with electric bikes. And don't hesitate to take the direct train from Milan to Bari for a truly green trip: it's easy and you can see the whole coast. Then a bus takes you to Matera. The journey is already part of the discovery! We absolutely recommend this trip, especially in spring!

—  Very nice discovery, pleasant little roads and paths between Basilicata and Puglia, we didn't come across many cars. We didn't come across many cars, but rather a few farm implements, as this is a region of livestock and crops, so we weren't surprised. Normal traffic on the outskirts of towns to reach our accommodation. We return home with our heads full of memories and lots of photos. A 6-day, 410 km bike ride at the beginning of May in sunshine, with varied landscapes and lots of flowers. Ideal cycling weather.

—  Beautiful scenery, but the route had a lot of traffic in some places; some of the hotels were very, very run-down and uncomfortable. Even though it was a self-guided tour, we were still tied to a group!

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

We will immediately forward your comments to our local partner so we can improve the accommodations and the organization of the tours.

Best regards,
The Grand Angle Team.
