Hiking in April means enjoying the best of shoulder season travel. You’ll find pleasant, mild temperatures ideal for walking, long before the intense heat of summer arrives. Trails are generally quieter than in peak season, allowing for a more peaceful connection with your surroundings. Moreover, spring unveils a breathtaking display of blooming wildflowers and lush green landscapes, from the coasts of Greece to the valleys of Spain, offering a unique and colorful backdrop for your adventure.
In April, the Cyclades are a hiker’s dream, with landscapes bursting into bloom and a tranquil atmosphere before the summer crowds. Our guided and self-guided tours invite you to wander ancient paths connecting white-washed villages and secluded beaches on islands like Sifnos, Milos, and Crete. The weather is typically mild and sunny, perfect for exploring the rich history and stunning coastal views that make adventure travel in Greece so rewarding.
While high-altitude treks in the Dolomites may still have snow, lower trails begin to open up, revealing the dramatic beauty of the mountains as winter recedes. For a full spring experience, the coastal paths of the Cinque Terre offer incredible vistas over the Mediterranean. A Cinque Terre hiking tour in April allows you to explore these iconic villages in comfortable temperatures. It’s an ideal time to discover the diverse landscapes of adventure travel in Italy.
April is one of the best months to walk a section of the legendary Camino Francés “The French Way”. The pleasant spring weather and the awakening of nature make the journey through northern Spain particularly special. For those seeking quieter mountain scenery, the Vercors plateau in the French Alps offers magnificent landscapes. A tour of the Vercors mountains provides a genuine sense of solitude and immersion in a protected natural environment.
Our self-guided hiking trips are designed for those who cherish independence without sacrificing peace of mind. We take care of all the logistics, from booking comfortable accommodations to daily luggage transfers. You receive a detailed roadbook and digital tracks, allowing you to walk at your own pace and fully immerse yourself in the journey. It’s the perfect formula for discovering Europe’s most beautiful trails with confidence and serenity.
If you prefer to share your experience and benefit from on-the-ground expertise, our guided tours in Europe are made for you. Led by passionate, professional guides, you’ll join a small group of like-minded walkers to discover the secrets of a region. It’s a fantastic way to learn more about the local culture and nature while we handle every detail of the trip, from navigation to meals.
Spring weather in Europe can be variable. While you can expect many sunny days, be prepared for occasional “April showers.” Layering is key, and waterproof gear is essential. We recommend consulting our detailed day hike packing list to ensure you have everything you need for a comfortable and safe adventure, including sturdy footwear and perhaps a pair of hiking poles for trickier terrain.
Travelers who enjoy hiking in April often return to explore Europe in other seasons. Consider the vibrant trails available for hiking in June or the golden landscapes on a hiking trip in autumn. Many of the destinations you love for walking, like Greece, also offer incredible cycling opportunities. Why not explore the islands on two wheels on a Greece bike tour? If the grandeur of the mountains captivates you, consider returning to the Alps hiking tours in summer for iconic treks like the Tour du Mont Blanc.

— Very interesting itineraries that often take you along less-traveled trails. Transportation and hotels were impeccable. A few inconsistencies between the app and the roadbook. The map showing how to get to Portela from Porto da Cruz is missing. Overall, we’re thrilled with this trip!
Thank you very much for your feedback! We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you also for your comments on the roadbook and the app—we'll look into them to improve our materials. We look forward to accompanying you on your next trip!

— A beautiful itinerary, magnificent scenery. Comfortable accommodation. Everything well organized.

— The whole group was delighted with their stay in the Queyras: highly professional guides (Jemma and Christophe) who listened attentively to our needs, hikes in a number of very different Queyras valleys that suited our level of ability, a quality family-run hotel offering a warm welcome and excellent meals, and minibus transport with punctual drivers who drove impressively on the narrow mountain roads. And, after a rainy first day, we had nothing but sunshine and mild temperatures, allowing us to take full advantage of the panoramic views of this beautiful region. A wonderful week!
