Why choose to cycle in winter?

A winter cycling holiday is an opportunity to see popular destinations in a new light. With fewer tourists, the roads become peaceful sanctuaries for cyclists, allowing for a more authentic and relaxing experience. The mild, pleasant temperatures in Southern Europe are ideal for comfortable, long-distance rides without the intense heat of summer. It’s a chance to connect with the landscape on your own terms, enjoying clear views and a quiet atmosphere.

Our winter cycling trips

The freedom of our self-guided tours

For those who cherish independence, our self-guided tours in Europe offer the perfect blend of freedom and support. We take care of the logistics, including luggage transfers, accommodation, and detailed route notes, so you can focus on the ride. You set the pace, deciding when to stop for a coffee or to admire a view, with the peace of mind that our local partners are always available to assist.

The conviviality of a guided group tour

If you enjoy sharing the experience with like-minded travelers, our guided tours in Europe are an excellent choice. Led by an expert local guide, you will discover hidden gems and local culture while benefiting from the support and motivation of the group. It’s a fantastic way to meet new people and create lasting memories together.

Where to go for your winter bike trip?

To escape the cold, Southern Europe offers magnificent playgrounds with mild and pleasant climates. Destinations like the Algarve in Portugal and Andalusia in Spain are prized for their sunny days and stunning coastal or rural landscapes. You can pedal along wild coastlines, through olive groves, and past picturesque villages. Islands such as Mallorca, Sardinia, or Sicily also provide beautiful and diverse routes, from flat coastal roads to more challenging mountain climbs.

Practical advice for your winter cycling adventure

When is the best time to go?

The period from November to March is ideal for a cycling trip in Southern Europe. You will benefit from mild temperatures, often between 15°C and 20°C (59°F to 68°F), and plenty of sunshine. This allows for comfortable cycling throughout the day, though it’s always wise to be prepared for changing weather, especially at higher altitudes.

How to prepare for your trip?

Choosing the right trip depends on your fitness level and what you want to discover. Carefully read the descriptions of our tours to find the one that suits you best. In terms of equipment, layering is key. Don’t forget to consult our comprehensive bike trip packing guide to make sure you have everything you need for a comfortable and safe journey. For any questions, do not hesitate to contact us; our experts are here to advise you.

Broaden your horizons

Travelers who appreciate cycling in autumn will love the tranquility and unique light of a winter bike tour. If you enjoy discovering a country through its landscapes and quiet roads, destinations like Portugal and Spain offer incredible opportunities year-round. And for those who love the winter atmosphere but prefer mountain scenery, why not consider a snowshoeing trip in the Alps? The possibilities for adventure are endless, no matter the season.

—  That's wonderful, thank you. Personally, I would have liked to have a choice between different hotel categories, which would also allow travelers to tailor their trip to their preferences and budget.

Thank you for your feedback! We're delighted that you enjoyed your trip. Thank you also for your suggestion: we'll look into offering more accommodation options whenever possible. We look forward to helping you plan your next trip!

—  Very nice discovery, pleasant little roads and paths between Basilicata and Puglia, we didn't come across many cars. We didn't come across many cars, but rather a few farm implements, as this is a region of livestock and crops, so we weren't surprised. Normal traffic on the outskirts of towns to reach our accommodation. We return home with our heads full of memories and lots of photos. A 6-day, 410 km bike ride at the beginning of May in sunshine, with varied landscapes and lots of flowers. Ideal cycling weather.
