Your level 4 walking holiday with Grand Angle

What does a level 4 walk involve?

A level 4 walk is intended for fit, experienced walkers in excellent physical condition. These routes involve daily stages of 6 hours of walking or more, with elevation gains often exceeding 900 metres. [1, 8] The terrain can be technical and rugged, including steep paths, scree slopes or high-altitude sections that require sure-footedness and good stamina. [2, 4] Regular endurance exercise is essential to ensure you are well prepared for these holidays. [1]

Our holiday options for experienced walkers

At Grand Angle, we know that adventure is a personal experience. That is why our level 4 walking holidays are available in two formats to suit your preferences:

  • A self-guided walking holiday : For those who enjoy walking at their own pace, we organise all the logistics: accommodation, luggage transfers and detailed route notes. You can enjoy your route to the full, without the demands of organising it yourself.
  • A group trek : Share your experience with fellow enthusiasts and benefit from the expertise of a Grand Angle mountain walking guide. Your guide keeps the group safe, shares their knowledge of the terrain and leads you through some of the most beautiful scenery.

Top destinations for a demanding trek

Level 4 routes open up some of Europe’s most beautiful mountain ranges. Set off on a trek in the Alps, tackling iconic routes such as the circuit of the Mont Blanc massif or the high routes of the Dolomites. Test yourself on the legendary GR20 in Corsica, renowned as one of Europe’s most difficult trails. You can also explore wild trails on a crossing of the Pyrenees, between France and Spain.

How can you prepare properly?

A level 4 walk requires careful preparation well in advance. We recommend starting regular cardiovascular training (running, cycling or swimming) several months before your departure. Build your stamina further with training walks that involve substantial elevation gains. Finally, suitable equipment is crucial; feel free to consult our advice on what to pack in a walking backpack. If you have any questions about preparing or choosing your holiday, our advisers are here to listen and help.

—  Deviously difficult mountain hikes and climbs, so be prepared and be in shape. Utterly thrilling with majestic views. Warm accommodations and great meals.

—  Grand Angle's advice for organizing our 6-day TMB fully met our expectations; the route, the stages and the suggested accommodations perfectly matched our requirements. We were lucky enough to enjoy exceptional weather during the period the agency had recommended. We experienced exceptional moments, made lovely encounters and enjoyed views over magnificent landscapes. A little break from life, to be repeated!

—  Scenery was out of this world. The ascents were hard but it meant you could stop and take it all in, take your time and appreciate just what you are achieving.

—  The route is as difficult as stated in the brochure, even dangerous in some sections, but extraordinarily beautiful, all the more so as we had good weather all week. The guide was friendly and attentive whenever one of us ran into difficulty, and the welcome at the refuges was warm. To be done by fit people who aren't prone to vertigo!
