Who are our level 2 walking holidays for?

Our level 2 (moderate) walking holidays are ideal for people who walk regularly. They suit those who can walk for several consecutive days, with daily routes involving 4 to 6 hours of actual walking. Daily elevation gain generally ranges from 400 to 700 metres, on well-defined trails that may occasionally include more technical or rocky sections. This is the perfect level for fully enjoying the scenery and immersing yourself in nature while maintaining a comfortable walking pace.

Guided or self-guided walking holidays: which option should you choose?

At Grand Angle, we know that every traveller has their own definition of adventure. That’s why we offer two ways to enjoy your moderate walking holiday, with the same quality of organisation.

Group holidays: friendly company and expertise

Choosing one of our group walking holidays means choosing shared experiences and peace of mind. Led by one of our enthusiastic walking guides, each an expert in their region, you explore trails safely and benefit from their knowledge of local wildlife, plants and heritage. With participant numbers kept small, the group atmosphere encourages conversation and camaraderie, leaving you free to relax and enjoy the experience.

Self-guided holidays: well-planned adventure

If you prefer to walk at your own pace, alone, as a couple or with friends, our self-guided walking holidays are made for you. We take care of all the logistics in advance: booking accommodation, transporting your luggage, and providing detailed route notes and GPS tracks. You can set off with peace of mind, confident in an itinerary carefully prepared by our experts, for an authentic experience with complete independence.

Our top destinations for moderate walking holidays

Our level 2 itineraries take you along Europe’s most beautiful trails. Whether you are drawn to the mountains, the sea or the countryside, you will find a holiday that suits you.

Iconic French mountain ranges

Explore the unique landscapes of our regions, from the Massif Central, with the legendary Stevenson Trail or a circuit of the Auvergne volcanoes, to the trails of the Pyrenees linking Collioure to Cadaqués. Discover the wild plateaus of the Vercors too, a mountain range ideal for accessible hiking.

The gentle charm of the Mediterranean

Let the colours and scents of the south enchant you. Explore the hilltop villages of the Cinque Terre in Italy, the coastal trails of the Côte d’Azur or the volcanic landscapes of the island of Madeira. Our hiking trips in Greece or Cape Verde promise a complete change of scenery in the sunshine.

Alpine panoramas

The Alps also reveal their beauty to walkers seeking moderate hikes. From the fairytale castles of Bavaria to the impressive rock formations of the Dolomites around Cortina d’Ampezzo, the panoramas are magnificent and within reach without major technical challenges.

Our tips for preparing for your hike

When to go?

Most of our moderate hiking trips are ideal from spring to autumn, when you can enjoy mild temperatures and vibrant landscapes. Each season brings its own light and atmosphere, so feel free to contact us to choose the best time for your destination.

What equipment should you bring?

A good pair of hiking boots is essential, along with a comfortable backpack of around 30 litres for your daytime essentials. Bring layers of clothing so you can adapt to changes in the weather. To make sure you remember everything, read our tips on packing your hiking backpack.

Can you hike as a family?

Absolutely! Several of our level 2 itineraries are perfectly suited to family holidays in nature with teenagers who are used to walking. It is an excellent way to share special moments and create memories together. Trips such as our family trek with donkeys in the Vercors are specifically designed for an adventure shared across generations.

Find the right level for you

The moderate level offers an excellent balance, but every walker has their own preferences and fitness level. To help you find your ideal trip, we have grouped all our holidays by difficulty. Explore our Easy (1), Moderate (2), Intermediate (3), Strenuous to Difficult (4) and Challenging (5) trips to find the adventure that awaits you.

Frederique 6/23/26

—  Beautiful Hikes The scenery is beautiful, and the trails are well-maintained. Some of the hikes are a bit more challenging than you’d expect for a Level 2 hike. Very pleasant accommodations: the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The meals are varied, and we really enjoyed the pool.

Evelyne 7/6/26

—  A magnificent hike, very varied. The on-site agent (Javi) was very competent and friendly, and taught us a lot about Menorca, its history, its wildlife, its flora and its birds, and orchestrated our stay perfectly. A hike best done in spring or autumn.
