Your hiking trip in Cape Verde with Grand Angle

Why choose Cape Verde for your next hike?

Cape Verde is a prime destination for hiking enthusiasts, thanks to the spectacular diversity of its landscapes and a mild climate throughout the year. The archipelago allows you to combine hikes on coastal trails overlooking the ocean, traversals of lush valleys cultivated in terraces, and exploration of lunar volcanic landscapes.

It is the promise of an accessible and exotic African trek, enriched by the warm welcome of its inhabitants and a vibrant culture.

Group hiking or freedom hiking in Cape Verde: which formula for you?

At Grand Angle, we propose two ways to discover Cape Verde, according to your wishes.

Our guided hikes allow you to set off with a light heart, guided by a local expert who shares with you their knowledge of the terrain and Cape Verdean culture. You benefit from the dynamic of a small group and complete organisation.

For those who prefer autonomy, our self-guided hiking trips are the ideal solution. You hike at your own pace thanks to a detailed route guide and accommodation and transfer reservations handled by us, for a controlled adventure in complete peace of mind.

What are the must-sees of a trek in Cape Verde?

Our itineraries focus on the jewels of the archipelago, recognised for the quality of their hiking trails:

  • Santo Antão: It is the paradise of hikers. Its steep mountains, its lush valleys like the Paúl valley and its spectacular coastal trails make it an essential trekking destination.
  • São Vicente: Gateway to Santo Antão, this more arid island is home to Mindelo, the cultural capital of the country. It is a charming stop to soak up the musical and colourful atmosphere of Cape Verde before or after your hikes.
  • Fogo: For travellers venturing further south, the island of Fogo offers a unique experience with its active volcano and black lava landscapes.

When to hike in Cape Verde?

Cape Verde enjoys a pleasant climate for much of the year. The best period for hiking extends from November to June, during the dry season, when temperatures are mild and trails are perfectly passable. The months of March to May are particularly recommended.

The rainy season, from July to October, is short and transforms the landscapes which become particularly lush.

And to go further?

If the volcanic landscapes and coastal trails of Cape Verde attract you, other islands with strong character could seduce you.

Explore for example the “levadas” of the island of Madeira (Portugal), the lands of fire of the Canary Islands (Spain), or even the mineral beauty of the Cyclades (Greece) for another island hiking experience.

—  We are delighted with this experience. Magnificent, varied routes that are easy to follow. The transfers were perfectly coordinated, the drivers warm and careful. Grand Angle and its local partner were easy to reach and were very responsive to the few adjustment requests we made to them. The accommodation was simple and perfectly adequate. In short, a wonderful trip without the slightest hitch.
