Your walking holiday on the Aubrac plateau with Grand Angle

Why choose Aubrac for your next walking holiday?

Choosing Aubrac means immersing yourself in a region with a distinctive character, in the heart of the Massif Central. Its landscapes, unique in France, unfold as vast pastures dotted with stone herders' huts known as burons and traditional dry-stone walls. The profound sense of space and silence provides an ideal setting to recharge. It is a perfect destination for walkers seeking authenticity and wide, unspoilt open spaces.

Our options for exploring the trails of Aubrac

At Grand Angle, we know that every walker has their own preferences. That is why we offer two ways to discover Aubrac:

  • A guided group walking holiday : For those who want to share their experience, benefit from the expertise of a guide who knows the region inside out and walk with complete peace of mind. Our group option is ideal for a sociable and enriching holiday.
  • Self-guided walking : If you prefer to walk at your own pace, alone, as a couple or with friends, our self-guided walking holidays are for you. We take care of accommodation bookings and luggage transfers so that you carry only the essentials and make the most of every stage.

Aubrac’s iconic routes

Aubrac is crossed by renowned trails, each offering a different experience. The Tour des Monts d’Aubrac is an iconic circular route that takes you deep into the plateau’s characteristic landscapes, between Lozère, Aveyron and Cantal. Another legendary route, crossing Aubrac on the Camino de Santiago (GR®65), including the Via Podiensis, is a moving experience that follows in the footsteps of millions of pilgrims.

When should you go walking in Aubrac?

The best time to walk on the Aubrac plateau is from May to October. Spring, from late May to June, is particularly popular for the spectacular flowers that carpet the meadows with narcissi, gentians and daffodils. Autumn brings warm colours and soft light, ideal for walking.

To prepare properly, bring equipment suited to the changeable weather of mid-altitude mountains. Take a look at our advice on what to pack in your backpack.

—  A wonderful destination for lovers of “unspoiled nature,” heritage, and local traditions. We were fortunate to have a very knowledgeable guide who was eager to share the points of interest we encountered along the way. The trails were very pleasant and easy to walk on.

—  A very lovely hike at this time of year

QUINTEAU Bernadette 9/28/26

—  A very beautiful hike, with plenty of variety each day and minimal elevation gain. It’s a good idea to start with a 15-km hike on the first day; exploring a section of the Camino de Santiago that same day gives you a taste of the atmosphere of Compostela. On the relatively quiet Aubrac loop, we were lucky to have ideal weather with panoramic views; the route passes through numerous hamlets and villages, though there are few shops along the way.
