Choosing a trip to Sicily, and more particularly the Aeolian Islands, is opting for a strong geological and sensory experience. This volcanic archipelago, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers landscapes unique in Europe where the fumaroles of Vulcano mingle with the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean and the nocturnal explosions of Stromboli. Each island has its own character, from lively Lipari to wild Alicudi, offering a diversity of atmospheres and trails. It is one of the most singular trekking destinations in Italy, where each day of hiking brings its share of visual discoveries and sensations.
A mountain of titanic dimensions, Etna and its 3340 mmetres does not stop stretching its dark flanks above Sicily. Hiking on the volcano, you never tire of listening to the very recent activity of the mountain told by Etna’s volcanologist guides. In regular eruption, the volcano’s geography evolves with the rhythm of new lava flows: here and there new cones, craters form when others disappear. A day of hiking in a world of black ash, to the sound of powerful degassing and regular plumes from the summit crater. Etna vibrates, captivates and seduces you, a magical and somewhat lunar experience!
The Aeolian archipelago, with no fewer than seventeen islands, offers a festival of delightful hikes. On Vulcano, besides the spectacular ascent of its smoking crater, you can enjoy the benefits of volcanism with sulphur mud baths. On quiet Filicudi, paths wind through preserved nature, heading towards authentic abandoned villages. With its 2 volcanic cones and lush atmosphere, Salina allows you to climb the highest peak of the Aeolian Islands for a breathtaking view! Finally, unmissable, with its permanent activity, Stromboli immerses you in the heart of volcanism: the hiker is rewarded with the finest spectacle, lava jets, explosions and volcanic bombs… Not to mention beautiful Panarea, with its extraordinary beaches and seabeds.
Our self-guided hiking stays offer you complete independence on the trails, with the peace of mind of logistics fully managed by us. You depart with a detailed route booklet, maps and our expert advice. We reserve your accommodations and arrange the transport of your luggage between stages. It’s the ideal formula for those who love walking at their own pace, as a couple or with friends, while benefiting from our knowledge of the terrain.
For those who appreciate sharing and an expert’s insights, our group treks are led by a local French-speaking guide passionate about his region. He ensures your safety, particularly on volcanic trails, and enriches your journey with his knowledge of local fauna, flora and culture. Travelling in small groups is the guarantee of a friendly atmosphere and a shared experience. It is the very essence of our guided tours.
The Mediterranean climate makes Sicily accessible for much of the year. However, spring (April to June) and autumn (September and October) are the ideal seasons for hiking. The temperatures are mild, vegetation often in bloom, and tourist numbers more moderate than at the height of summer.
The choice of your stay will depend on your preferences. Do you prefer the independence of the self-guided option or the dynamics of a guided group? Would you like a complete immersion across several islands or focus on climbing the most emblematic volcanoes? Take time to read the detailed information about our trips. If in doubt, our team is here to advise you. Feel free to contact us to discuss your project.
Although hiking on active volcanoes requires good physical fitness and is better suited to adults or strong hiking teenagers, the Sicilian adventure can be adapted for families. Gentler itineraries, combining hiking, swimming and cultural discovery, can be considered. For a custom project, explore our suggestions for family holidays in Italy or contact us so we can design a stay suited to your children’s age and pace.

Marie-jeanne - Etienne 6/23/26
— I made some wonderful discoveries on these magnificent islands, where the people at the lodging places are very friendly, respectful, and attentive. As for what to pack, there are some unnecessary items: gloves, a hat, and a stopper. Instead of a plate, bring an airtight container.
Gislaine 6/23/26
— Every two days we discover a new island; since they’re all so different, we get to experience a wide range of emotions and exceptional moments—nothing but fun and lots of photos.
