Hiking in Corsica in Spring with Grand Angle

Why choose Corsica for your spring hiking holiday?

Spring (April, May, June) is arguably the best season to explore Corsica on foot. Temperatures are mild and pleasant for walking, well before the summer heat arrives. Nature is bursting with life: the maquis is in bloom, covering the island in a colourful, fragrant blanket. The days grow longer, giving you plenty of daylight for long, enjoyable hikes, and the rivers and streams, fed by winter snowmelt, create spectacular waterfalls. There are also fewer visitors than in summer, allowing you to enjoy the trails and villages in greater tranquillity.

How do our self-guided and group holidays in Corsica work?

At Grand Angle, we want your Corsican experience to be tailored to your wishes.

Self-guided holidays: Adventure at your own pace

Choosing a self-guided holiday means choosing independence with peace of mind. We arrange all the logistics in advance: booking accommodation (charming hotels and traditional guesthouses) and transporting your main luggage from one stop to the next. Each morning, you set off with a light backpack and a comprehensive travel pack including maps, detailed route notes and often GPS tracks. You walk at your own pace, alone, as a couple or with friends, with the flexibility to stop whenever you like to admire a view or enjoy a picnic.

Group holidays: A friendly atmosphere and the expertise of a guide

Our group trips are an opportunity to share memorable experiences with fellow hiking enthusiasts, all led by a local Grand Angle guide. Our guides are experts on Corsica: they know the trails inside out, as well as the island’s wildlife, flora, history and culture. They enrich your journey with anecdotes, look after your safety, manage the group’s pace and introduce you to hidden sides of the island. This is the ideal option if you want to deepen your knowledge, leave all the planning to someone else and enjoy a friendly atmosphere.

Which hiking option suits you?

Corsica is an exceptional playground for hikers. Our spring trips in this category focus exclusively on hiking, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the island’s wild beauty.

  • Point-to-point hiking: For those who enjoy watching the scenery change each day, with stages linking different places of interest along legendary routes such as the GR20, Mare e Monti or Mare a Mare.
  • Single-centre hiking: Trips offering daily hikes from a fixed accommodation base allow you to carry even lighter bags and explore a region in depth.
  • With or without luggage transfers: On some routes, such as the GR20, we offer options with luggage transfers, where your main belongings are transported for you, so you only need to carry your daypack.

Our top regions for spring hiking in Corsica

Spring brings out the best in every aspect of the island. Here are a few highlights:

  • The GR20 (North and/or South): One of Europe’s most famous and most challenging long-distance hiking trails. Spring often offers milder conditions for tackling it, although some patches of snow may remain at higher altitudes early in the season, adding to the magic of Corsica’s alpine landscapes. Best planned for late spring.
  • The Mare e Monti trails: These routes link the mountains to the sea, offering spectacular views and a wide variety of landscapes, from Corsican pine forests to shimmering gulfs such as Porto and Piana. Ideal for enjoying the scent of the maquis and the sea spray.
  • The Mare a Mare Sud: A more accessible crossing linking Porto-Vecchio to Propriano, introducing you to the authentic character of the island’s interior and the beauty of its hilltop villages.
  • Cap Corse: The island’s wild, unspoilt northern tip, with its Genoese towers, small fishing harbours and coastal customs paths offering stunning sea views.

Practical tips for spring hiking in Corsica

When to go?

April to June is the ideal time.

  • April–May: The maquis is at its peak of flowering, and temperatures are mild. In the mountains (GR20), snow may linger on the highest peaks, sometimes requiring suitable equipment (lightweight crampons and ice axes, depending on conditions and altitude). This is a wonderful time for photography.
  • June: The days are long and sunny, and temperatures rise but generally remain very pleasant for walking, especially at higher altitudes. The mountain streams and the sea start to look very inviting for a refreshing swim.

How to choose your walking holiday?

Take a careful look at your fitness level and what you would like from your trip:

  • Difficulty: Our holidays are graded by difficulty. The GR20 is demanding, while some sections of the Mare e Monti routes or the Mare a Mare Sud are more accessible. Read the detailed trip information carefully.
  • Comfort: Would you prefer nights in mountain refuges for a fully immersive experience (GR20), or the comfort of selected hotels or guesthouses (Mare e Monti, Mare a Mare)?
  • Self-guided or guided: Are you an experienced walker who prefers to find your own way (self-guided), or would you like to enjoy a guide’s expertise and friendly company (group)?

Feel free to contact our travel advisers, who can help you choose the holiday that best suits your expectations.

A family holiday in Corsica in spring

While the most iconic routes, such as the GR20, are aimed at fit, experienced adult walkers, Corsica in spring can also be a wonderful destination for active families. Some gentler sections of the Mare e Monti trails or coastal walks in Cap Corse may be suitable for teenagers who are used to walking. For families with young children, we can explore tailor-made holidays or suggest more suitable multi-activity options. Feel free to ask us for personalised advice: every family is unique, and we love creating unforgettable memories for adventurers of all ages!

—  The route is as difficult as stated in the brochure, even dangerous in some sections, but extraordinarily beautiful, all the more so as we had good weather all week. The guide was friendly and attentive whenever one of us ran into difficulty, and the welcome at the refuges was warm. To be done by fit people who aren't prone to vertigo!

—  The trip was better than described and the hotels and food were very comfortable and clean. The guide brought amazing snacks and even wine on the trail. The trip had the right level of difficulty described. The guide gave a lot of information about Corsica and history. I feel like the partner agency Corsica adventures put a lot of love into planning for their guests and it showed. Their passion for Corsica and the people is evident.

Emmanuelle 12/27/25

—  A beautiful hike through magnificent, varied landscapes, with a welcome finish by the sea.
